On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at the ITS World Congress in Montreal (Canada), the European industry and interest group ERTICO, together with Hamburg Senator Frank Horch, announced the international body’s decision that the Hanseatic City of Hamburg had submitted the best bid in the competition of four cities. Together with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Hamburg will host the world’s largest congress in the thematic field of „Intelligent Transport Systems“ (ITS) from October 11 to 15, 2021, in the then renovated Congress Center Hamburg, the exhibition halls and in the city area on selected roads.
ITS mobility played a key role in bringing the congress to northern Germany and is pleased to offer its members the unique opportunity of a „home game“ to exclusively present their products and services to a global audience. The city of Hamburg is a member of ITS mobility and represented on the board.
Numerous members of the association have already supported the project by writing a letter of support, thus giving Hamburg’s application strong backing beyond the city limits from the entire industry. Over the next few years, Hamburg would like to offer a test and trial environment in which to work on the use of future technologies in numerous projects together with partners from industry and science. In the past 15 months, cooperation agreements have already been signed with Volkswagen, BMW Group, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn and HERE Technologies. The main topics at the ITS World Congress 2021 will be: Automated and Connected Driving, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), Port and Logistics, and Intelligent Infrastructure.
Hamburg submitted its bid to host the 2021 ITS World Congress last March under the slogan „COS it’s Hamburg – City of Solutions.“ The World Congress is held every three years in Europe, with guest appearances in the Americas and Asia in the interim. Every year, more than 10,000 guests visit the conference program and the accompanying exhibition, take part in live demonstrations and exchange information on the latest developments in the field of intelligent transport systems and services. Next year, the ITS World Congress will be held in Copenhagen from September 17 to 21, 2018.
